Dit record bundelt vier productielocaties van het Japanse Nikka Whisky Distilling (Asahi Group); de gekoppelde whisky's (Miyagikyo 12, Miyagikyo 15 en Nikka The Grain) en de regio Miyagi wijzen naar de Miyagikyo-distilleerderij als kern. Nikka werd in 1934 opgericht door Masataka Taketsuru, de 'vader van de Japanse whisky' die het vak in Schotland leerde; Miyagikyo (Sendai) volgde in 1969 als zijn tweede distilleerderij, gekozen om in een vochtig, bebost rivierdal tussen de Hirose- en Nikkawa-rivier een zachtere, meer fruitige en florale malt te maken als tegenhanger van de krachtige Yoichi-stijl. De overige in de naam genoemde sites zijn ondersteunend: Nishinomiya (Hyogo, likeur/bottelen), Moji (Fukuoka, shochu en graanwhisky-rijping) en Satsuma Tsukasa (Kagoshima, shochu, sinds 2011 onderdeel van Nikka). De huisstijl van Miyagikyo is verfijnd door stomende destillatie in pot stills met bolle hals en opwaartse lyne arms.
